Catholic Francis tells Calvinist Orbán: Christians Must Open Up Borders
"When in the coffer the coin rings, across the border the soul springs"
Washington, D.C. — Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, welcomed Pope Francis to Hungary with an open mind and heart. Pope Francis implored Orbán to do more: open your borders too.
The headline from the National Catholic Register said, “Pope Francis in Orbán's Hungary: Christians must accept refugees.”
Said writer Christopher White, “Pope Francis on April 28 launched his closely watched three-day trip to Hungary by telling the country's staunchly anti-immigrant political leaders that if the country wants to remain true to its Christian roots, it must be willing to accept migrants and refugees.
" 'I urge you to show favor not only to relations and kin, or to the powerful and wealthy, or to your neighbors and fellow-countrymen, but also to foreigners and all who come to you,' " said Francis, quoting St. Stephen, the country's 10th century king who spread Christianity throughout Hungary.”
I have multiple problems with the Pope’s council. Let’s put this in perspective. Since Joe Biden assumed office here in the USA, over 5 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border. The questions the Pope is not answering include the following:
What is the endgame of asking any country absorb millions of individuals who cross the border illegally?
When and where has illegal immigration worked to the benefit of the receiving nation? The opposite question should also be asked: When and where has holding the line on illegal immigration worked?
Do the failed countries from whence illegals come bear any responsibility for lack of goverance?
Must people obey the law?
Is it the proper role of the state to determine immigration policy, or the Roman Catholic Church?
Does the Roman Catholic church have a monetary interest, and thus a conflict of interest, in promoting open borders and mass immigration (legal and illegal)?
